明時代末期に、現在の福建省にある漳州窯で焼かれた鳳凰デザインのうつわです。
10枚組用の古い木箱に収まって伝わった中の一枚です。

主に輸出向けとして生産されていた品で、江戸時代初期から日本に数多くもたらされています。日本では呉須（または呉須手）と呼ばれ親しまれてきました。
鳳凰の図柄は中でも典型的なデザインで類品はときどき見かけられるのですが、同様の意匠でも一枚一枚が個性的で、見比べるとさまざまな発見があることでしょう。

本品の鳳凰は、立派な冠毛が特徴的で、顔は小さめでバランスの整った優美な姿も好ましいものです。
丸い目で親しみのもてる表情をしています。

焼成時に釉薬が縮れた痕が、特に裏面に見られます。
漳州窯の製品にしばしば見られる砂の付着が少ないのも本品の特徴です。
鍔縁状の口縁で、側面から見ると端反形となっていることがお分かりでしょう。
